Dream Bigger Weekend 2016

The Evansville Police Department, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and Media Ministries Dream Center will be celebrating their 2nd annual “Dream Bigger Weekend” at the Dream Car Museum located at Bennett Motors.

The EPD and VCSO will be raising money to help finance “Cops Connecting with Kids” third annual Disney World Trip.  More than 40 students from Cedar Hall and Glenwood will take the trip of a lifetime in 2017.  Media Ministries Dream Center will utilize their dollars to purchase non-perishable food, turkeys, and bagged fruit to fill 2,000 Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes to feed families during the holiday season.

Newburgh BBQ Coalition will be selling BBQ ribs, pulled pork sandwhiches and tenderloins all weekend.

Come out and help us make BIG DREAMS COME TRUE!

The Dream Car Museum is partnering with Heartsavers for the month of July.  Heartsavers mission is to reduce the sudden cardiac death through the placement of life-saving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in the Tri-State.  Sudden cardiac death chooses its victims without regard to age, gender, health status or history.

You can donate to this charity in the month of July at the Dream Car Museum.  Want to know more? See the flyers below!

The McLaren MP4-12C

If you visited the museum then chances are this beauty caught your eye.

The 2014 McLaren MP4-2C features a carbon fiber composite chassis and is powered by a 3.8 Liter V-8 engine. It can go 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. It is crazy fast with top speeds of 205 miles per hour!

Our McLaren has a 7 speed dual clutch, automatic with manual shifting mode.

This car is not only fast but it’s beautiful too.

I would say you don’t want to over look this beauty but I’m pretty confident you can’t.

All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.

That is exactly what forty extremely happy Cedar Hall and Glenwood Leadership Academy Students will always believe thanks to the effort of some really amazing people.

This Fall the Dream Center and Cops Connecting with kids held a fundraiser on the opening day of the museum. It was the Dream Big weekend!  This fundraiser along with others like a spin-a-thon and a rummage sales raised enough money to send these hard working children on a trip of a lifetime. An all expense paid trip to Disney World in Orlando Florida.

Many were involved in the fundraising efforts but a few names that always kept popping up to me were our Chief of Police Billy Bolin and Office Jason Cullum.  These two seemed to be in the center of all the effort and all of the fun times at Disney too.

I was browsing through the pictures they were posting these last few days and couldn’t help but think that the community needed to see what could happen when they pull together.  This is amazing people.  Can you imagine the memories these children will hold dear in their hearts forever.

There were some wonderful pictures and heart felt posts online I wanted to share with you.   I hope this touches your heart as it has touched mine.

“So if you’re eating in a restaurant and forty excited middle school kids come in, what would your reaction be? We just left the Golden Corral in Clarksville, TN. Our kids are extremely well behaved. Several adults complimented them and one man wanted to donate money after hearing what we’re doing. We told him the trip was funded and thanked him, then he heard one of the kids forgot pajamas and he gave us $20 to buy the kid some new pajamas. The magic has begun!” – Billy Bolin

“Look at these smiles. I’ve really enjoyed following this Disney experience so far. I want to take a moment to thank anyone who donated cash, bought a candy bar, made baked items for our bake sale, bought a hot dog or hamburger from our cookout, bought some barbeque from our Big Dream weekend, donated items and or shopped at our huge rummage sale. Each and every one of you made this possible. YOU need to look at these faces and know that you were a part of their journey. This will be something they will never forget.” -Shelly Cullum

Okay… Last one! I promise!

“This bus ride is long, so this post may be as well. We’re around Macon, Georgia and I’m reflecting on the events of the past four days. It’s hard to understand how impactful this trip is without experiencing it first hand. There are several goals of this trip, that can’t be accomplished by a day trip to Holiday World or Six Flags. We want these kids to learn that if they work hard and make the right choices, they can be rewarded for it. Most kids who are attending schools in economically depressed areas do not like, nor trust the police. I’m confident that forty kids will come home with an altered opinion of who we are. Even the ones who may have liked us beforehand, will forever see us differently. We don’t drop them in a theme park and tell them to meet us at a set time, we go with them. We ride the rides, we meet the characters, we make fun of ourselves and each other, we randomly sing and dance and make fools of ourselves. The first day, they look at us like we’re crazy, by the end, they’re joining in with us.

We’ve learned many other things happen on these trips, such as bolstered self-esteem and belonging. One of the chaperones told me one of their kids said, “When we started this trip, I didn’t have any friends and now I have three best friends!” The teacher said she knew this to be true and further added that the other kids said, “yeah, we didn’t even know you.” We’ve seen kids choose to spend their spending money on siblings or parents.

I’m so grateful that God placed me and Tamara Shelton Skinner in the same room together three years ago. I was speaking to the group about how much I admired Walt Disney’s leadership when she yelled out that we needed to talk. I’m further grateful for Jason Cullum, who decided he would be the one to see this continue after the school didn’t get the grant the second year. Jason has worked tirelessly to see this trip happen. We also had numerous financial sponsors, with the largest being Larry Bennett, and we can’t thank all of you enough!

I’ve had a first hand seat to watching lives being changed this weekend. I think Uncle Walt would be proud.” -Billy Bolin

I hope you enjoyed them as much as we did!

We are a Travel Treasure

We were so excited to learn that we are featured in the AAA Midwest Traveler for January-February 2016 as a Travel Treasure.

This is the magazine for all AAA members.

It is an amazing Article starting out by calling our museum “…a jaw-dropping collection of classic and exotic cars…”.

We are so very blessed with the honor and excited we can share all this history of cars and memorabilia with everyone who visits.

Thank you to everyone who supports us.

Ultimate Barn Find

Having been stored in a barn for nearly 40 years, this Corvette remains in “as discovered” condition.

This Corvette, was purchased more than 40 years ago in California and was found in 2010 by Mike Yager. It was discovered more than 200 feet from the main county road off the beaten path in Central Illinois.

It was hidden from the road by trees and brush and surrounded by tall weeds. It was the inspiration to his book, “Corvette Bible”, and was featured in several magazines and automotive websites.

The door to this barn had been nailed shut for all of that time, nearly four decades. Still sitting on a car trailer when they opened it up was a 1957 Corvette.

This particular Corvette had a production number of 5,081 of 6,339 produced in 1957. It has a small block V-8, NOM.

Head on into the Dream Car Museum an take a look at it in person and don’t worry, we removed the dead squirrel so it wouldn’t stink. 🙂

Dream Car Museum visits Mecum Auctions

Larry and his crew recently visited Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee Florida. I won’t let the cat out of the bag, or rather the sign out of the crate yet but I will share with you a message from Jason, Museum Curator.

“Well, it’s been an amazing day for the Dream Car Museum here in Kissimmee Florida. Let me tell ya. If you’ve been through the museum before and loved it, just wait till you see what we have in store for you coming soon. Be on the look out for a whole new look coming very very soon. As always, we look forward to seeing you!”

I don’t know about you but that’s enough to get me excited!

I promise to let you know when the new displays are up. I may even try to sneak some pictures for you!
